The Energy You Output Is a Reflection of What You Input

I’ve realized that the energy that I output is a direct reflection of the energy that I input into my mind. And becoming hyper-aware of this has empowered me to alter my mental diet so that I output the energy that I want to output (mostly happiness, kindness, friendliness, and openness) instead of outputting the energy that is passively fed to me.⠀

The simplest way to grasp this concept is if you watch a sad movie then you’ll feel sad, if you listen to happy music you’ll feel happy, and if you read depressing news then you’ll feel depressed. And while we’re all logically aware of how this works, taking action to create the energy that we want in our lives is the critical step.⠀

For me, this means I now only listen to happy music because it puts me and keeps me in a happy state, I no longer live in major cities because it clutters my thoughts, I quit Twitter because there was too much negative political energy, and I tightly control the news mediums that I consume (only daily email newsletters, no TV or real-time alerts).⠀

The phrase “you are who you surround yourself with” follows similar logic to this because our minds are echo chambers of the information that we feed ourselves.⠀

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to think about what inputs (people, information, neighborhoods, environments) negatively or positively affect your energy and then think about changing your mental diet to reflect what you want to output into the world.⠀

Agree? Disagree? Would love to hear your thoughts!⠀

I've been building digital businesses, wandering the world, and writing about optimizing life for freedom since early 2017. My mission is to lower the barrier for people who want to live with more freedom: whether that be as an entrepreneur, a digital nomad, an early retiree, or just as someone who wants to live a happiness-driven life.
